Legendary Nigerian musician Wande Coal has dropped the official music video for his newest single, ‘Umbrella.’ The flick is his first official single since his deal with the American music company, Empire.
Wande Coal’s ‘Umbrella,’ co-written by grammy-nominated producer Sak Pase, sees Wande Coal celebrating love and showcasing it as a special, fun, and adoring way to live. “Umbrella is meant to celebrate love and how protective, special, and full of life it makes you feel,” the musician says.
“I like for my music to tell a story and paint a picture of what I’m going through and experiencing,” he said of the visuals directed by Austin McCracken, adding that “When people listen to this, I want them to think of happier times with people they love to be around.”
Empire has established itself as a leading record label in the African market, especially in Nigeria, with quality musicians signed to the imprint. “It was an honour to sign a legend like Wande Coal,” Tina Davis, Empire’s Senior Vice President of A&R, disclosed.
“As a forefather of the Afro-Fusion genre, we wanted to make sure we highlighted him on this project. Outside of him being an amazing person, he approaches this record from a pure place of love,” she added.
‘Umbrella’ is off Empire’s ‘Where We Come From (Vol. 1),’ a collaborative project with other artistes on the label. The first track released from the project was ‘Cough’ by sophisticated singer Kizz Daniel, which is currently trending on top spots of different music charts, including Apple Music, Spotify, and more.
