Saworoide is a classic Nigerian film that was released in 1999.
The movie tells the story of a small town called Jogbo, which is ruled by a powerful and corrupt king. The film explores themes of power, corruption, and the struggle for justice in a society where the voices of the people are often silenced.
It featured stars like,Kola Oyewo, Bukky Wright, Lere Paimo, Larinde Akinleye, Peter Fatomilola, Kunle Bamtefa, Adebayo Faleti, Kayode Olaiya and Doyin Hassan.
Saworoide cemented Kelani’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s top filmmakers.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls a while back, Tunde Kelani announced his resignation as the chairman and member of the National Film and Video Censors Board.
The award-winning movie director disclosed that he had not released a movie for some years because he was avoiding his work being pirated. Tunde Kelani disclosed in an interview with Sunday Scoop:
“My plan is to continue working. Being a member of NFVCB wasn’t a full-time job; we were just expected to hold meetings three times a year. As a matter of fact, there was no time I left my job as a filmmaker.
“But for the last four years, I have not released any new production. I have movies I can release, but it wouldn’t be wise to do that because they will be pirated within 24 hours.
“It is not sustainable to keep working for pirates because we invest a lot in our movies.”
