President Bola Tinubu’s announcement on the fuel subsidy removal, has continued to generate massive reactions from notable personalities, particularly on the social media platform, Twitter.
Recall that President Tinubu, during his inaugural speech at the Eagle Square on Monday, had announced that the petrol subsidy regime was over.
He said, “On fuel subsidy, unfortunately, the budget before I assumed office is that no provision is there for fuel subsidy. So fuel subsidy is gone.”
Famous Nigerian singer and socio-political activist Charles Oputa, known by his stage name, Charly Boy, has expressed concern over President Bola Tinubu’s plan to remove subsidy from fuel.
Charly Boy, via his Twitter page, lamented that Tinubu’s controversial remark on the subsidy had triggered an increase in the price of fuel in parts of the country.
The entertainer wondered if those lauding the president on the move would not suffer the consequences.
He wrote,
“Tinubu don break record within 24 hours after swearing-in. Fuel scarcity and fuel price have increased after announcing fuel subsidy removal. Day 1 hitting the ground running.
“The question is, are the BATIS going to buy this fuel in different prices from what We Buy??? We go soon learn”.
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in the February 25 presidential election, Omoyele Sowore, also slammed President Bola Tinubu over his announcement.
In a post via his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday, Sowore claimed that the nation’s elites don’t care about Nigerians.
Sowore said that Tinubu’s “thoughtless fuel subsidy removal announcement triggered fuel scarcity and price gouging all over the country.”
