Media personality, Omotara Akanni has filed a lawsuit against the popular blog, Instablog9ja, over defamation and the publication of libelous content.
The root of the saga dates back to Tuesday, May 30th, 2023 when singer Tiwa Savage shared a photo of herself with an unidentified man in Brazil.
Omotara subsequently took to her Twitter handle to express her opinion against flaunting romantic partners online. She tweeted about the unnecessary nature of showcasing relationships and the potential negative consequences. She emphasized that people’s perception of one’s life could be influenced by such displays and advised her followers to be mindful of the effects.
Her post read:
“Flaunting your partner on social media is really not necessary. Why do people need to see who you are dating, married to, sneaky link and all that? Letting the public know what they do for you is not it. The effect of flaunting your partner are a quite a lot.
“Eg., people would make it seem as though life is not straight and it not being straight leads to pictures looking back at your life when the economy is backsliding. Of course, people will decide if the things surrounding them makes it worthy of giving glory.
Many things are not as it seems because effortlessly, the magnificent survey across the earth are not involved. You need to be aware because videos are above the order. Take my advice and abide by it❤️.”
However, Instablog9ja published screenshots of Omotara’s post, linking it to Tiwa Savage and creating the headline, “Flaunting your partner on social media is really not necessary,” Media Personality Omotara tells singer Tiwa Savage, others.”
This however didn’t sit well with Omotara who perceived it as an act of cyberbullying and defamation
Consequently, Omotara initiated legal proceedings against Instablog, accusing them of cyberbullying and defamation of character.
The lawsuit, titled “DEMAND FOR APOLOGY AND RETRACTION FOR DEFAMATORY AND LIBELOUS PUBLICATION AGAINST GRACE OMOWUMI AKANNI-LAWRENCE,” argues that Instablog’s publications distorted and misrepresented Omotara’s tweet to maliciously target and ridicule her. The suit further states that these actions have subjected Omotara, her family, and her business to harassment, psychological abuse, and unwarranted attacks.
