Award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, recounts her journey to stardom.
The singer claimed she began in Lagos but has since expanded internationally, stating that her life has been a ‘testimony’
Tems made the statements at New Orleans, Louisiana, while delivering a speech at the Essence Festival.
amid thunderous applause, she said:
“You know, my life is a testimony. I guess, for those who don’t understand, I’m from Lagos, Nigeria”.
Tems rose to fame after a marvelous performance as a guest on Wizkid’s ‘Essence,’ which was included on his album ‘Made In Lagos, after the release of a remix version with Canadian pop star Justin Bieber in 2021.
Recall that Tems has gained international recognition ever since and has won a Grammy
Tems won Best Melodica Rap Performance at the 65th Grammy Awards on February 6, 2023 for her contribution to Future’s “Wait For U,” which also featured Drake.
Muyiwa Awoniyi, the singer’s manager, announced the plaque’s arrival on social media on Friday night.
The curvy singer is not only the first female Nigerian artiste to win a Grammy, but she is also the first female Nigerian singer to be nominated for a Grammy. Read more here…
