- Sarkodie has finally explained why he decided to respond to the accusations made by Yvonne Nelson using diss tracks
- Yvonne had involved Sarkodie and some other public figures into an ugly scandal
- He refuted her claim in one of the songs by stating that he had told Yvonne Nelson to keep the child
Famous Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, better known by his stage name Sarkodie, has explained why he decided to respond to the accusations made by actress Yvonne Nelson using diss tracks rather than issuing a formal statement.
Recall that Sarkodie, Iyanya, and Tonto Dikeh were embroiled into an ugly scandal after the actress divulged various facts in her book, “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson”.
In the case of Sarkodie, she claimed that the rapper had impregnated her and denied being the child’s father, prompting her to terminate the child.
Sarkodie had been largely silent on the subject and never made a formal statement throughout the media uproar that had followed the disclosure.
Instead, he had opted to respond to her accusations by making diss tracks available.
He had refuted her claim in one of the songs by stating that he told Yvonne Nelson to keep the child despite not being ready to be a parent at the time.
He recently told American talk show host Angela Yee that he preferred not to go on media appearances since he might lose his composure while discussing the subject.
Sarkodie claimed that music gave him a way to effectively communicate his part of what really happened.
He said:
“The reason I didn’t do any media run or press around it [Yvonne’s allegations] is because I might lose how I would like to present what I feel about it. This is not the first time. I have done records to address certain issues, or maybe a line or two in a record. There is a certain energy I hate to fill into, especially speaking about it because I might lose my cool.
“With this situation, I’m not going to say I’m super proud of everything. The thing is just in a moment how I felt whether be my truth there should be a way I would have said it.
“That is why I don’t like to speak about it. This is a conversation between two people. We could have a conversation if you want to talk about it because it involves me as well. But because people know Sark doesn’t speak, people think they can say something and know Sark is not going to speak and they are gonna get away.”
Recall that Sarkodie had revealed in one of his songs that Yvonne Nelson was for the street, tried to stay away from her but she kept coming
Recall that Yvonne Nelson recently released her book, in which she detailed her experience of becoming pregnant by Sarkodie, his denial of responsibility, and his insistence on her getting an abortion.
In response to these allegations, Sarkodie released a diss track in which he strongly criticized the actress for attempting to portray herself as a victim.
The rapper admonished Yvonne Nelson to stop playing the victim and take responsibility for her own ‘bad choices’ in life, emphasizing that nobody else is to blame. See video here.
