Imo State's Alaenyi Ogwa town was draped in an aura of sorrow and heartache on that fateful Friday, as indigenes, fans gathered to bid their last farewell to Saint Obi, whose marital struggles with his ex-wife were believed to have played a part in his tragic passing


On the poignant Friday of August 18, 2023, the mortal remains of the esteemed Nollywood thespian, Obinna Nwafor, affectionately recognized as the iconic Saint Obi, found its eternal abode in his cherished hometown, Alaenyi Ogwa, nestled within the embrace of Imo State.

Earlier, it was reported by WITHIN NIGERIA that the actor breathed his last on a melancholic Sunday, precisely May 7, 2023, within the confines of a sibling’s residence situated at 13 Metropolitan Street in the heart of Tudun Wada, Jos.

Videos observed on the internet captured the moment when the body of the deceased arrived, with a group of individuals making their way into the venue.

The ceremony was presided over by Catholic priests who offered prayers for his soul to find eternal serenity.

Saint Obi’s ex-wife, who had been under considerable scrutiny for purportedly contributing to the actor’s depression that eventually led to his passing, was observed clad in white attire, alongside their children, as his mortal remains were gently laid to rest.

The late actor’s burial is coming a week after many Nollywood stars stormed the candlelight service to pay respect to the late movie star.

The candlelight session, attended by Nollywood stars, was held in Lagos with a procession that started at the Oriental Hotel and ended at the Civic Centre, Ozumba Mbadiwe Street, Victoria Island.

Saint Obi died in Plateau State at the age of 57 after battling a protracted ailment.

The actor reportedly visited hospitals for treatment for several months before he passed on.

Saint Obi came onto the acting scene in 1996 after doing a commercial for Peugeot on NTA and went on to feature in more than 100 movies.

He was born in 1965 in the Port Harcourt city of Rivers State. His parents later moved to Jos where he had his early education.

Saint Obi graduated from the University of Jos after studying theatre arts. The movie star was known by several nicknames like James Bond of Nollywood, Saint of the Moviedom etc
