I lied in court rooms, police stations – Burna Boy

Tucked in between his hit songs are controversies that paint the singer as more than the regular bad boy artist, Burna can be described as a creative genius haunted by his darker side, as he openly discusses his run-ins with police stations and courtrooms.


The Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, has openly acknowledged making false statements in both courtrooms and police stations on numerous occasions.

The self-styled ‘African Giant’ admitted this while bragging about his blunt nature.

He said he never lies except in “courtrooms and police stations.”

On his Instagram story, Burna Boy wrote, “The only times I ever lied was in courtrooms and police stations.

“If you don’t like me, I don’t like you more than you don’t like me. You can’t win.”

Burna Boy is one of Nigeria’s most talented singers in Nigeria of his generation. No one questions his skills but the controversies and drama have robbed him of the accolades he deserves.

In November, the police said Burna Boy was the mastermind behind the attack and robbery of Mr 2Kay at Eko Hotels & Suites.

After a few weeks of ducking from the law, Burna Boy turned himself in on Friday, December 15, 2017. On December 18, 2017, he was arraigned in court and given a two count charge. He was later bailed out.

Burna Boy, in 2013, reportedly stabbed someone to death in LondonHe was tried as a minor and was sentenced to jail.

Eleven months later he was released on parole for two months with community service on the grounds of good behaviour. According to the reports, Burna travelled back to Nigeria thereby flouting his parole.

In 2015, Burna Boy grabbed the headlines for being involved in a fight with Zimbabwean dancehall star . The two squared off at a party organized by Da LES in South Africa.

2015 was one of his most controversial years. Within the same 12-month period, Burna Boy posted two pictures of him with a gun on Instagram. This was a week after he renewed his deal with telco giant GLO.

He wrapped up the year with a skirmish with a man in Lekki when his bodyguards allegedly beat him up following an accident. South African rapper, AKA was with Burna Boy when this incident happened late 2015.
