- “Celebrating the Best Films of the Year” – American Film Awards returns to celebrate diverse talents from around the world
The prestigious American Film Awards is gearing up for its annual extravaganza this September. This grand event, now in its sixteenth year, is renowned for honouring cinematic brilliance on a global scale, bridging continents and cultures by recognising outstanding contributions from Nollywood, Bollywood, and Hollywood.
A Platform of Distinction
Founded in the heart of Hollywood, the American Film Awards is the brainchild of Executive Producer Dr. Frank Ezenekwe. Over the years, it has evolved into a multifaceted platform that goes beyond just an awards show. It encompasses the Dream Academy, the immersive streaming service Shaka, and the enlightening Previews Magazine. These elements together create a comprehensive celebration of the art of filmmaking, acknowledging excellence in categories, ranging from Best Action Film and Best Romantic Film to Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Nollywood Film, Best Asian Film, and many more.
A Passion for Film
Reflecting on the Awards’ journey, Dr Frank Ezenekwe shared, “For the last 17 years, we have nurtured the idea of celebrating the best films of the year. Some years bring us exceptional films, while others delve into the political landscape. Occasionally, filmmakers face challenges, but they persist. We share the excitement of every new film release—the dimming of the lights, the trailers, and the aroma of freshly roasted popcorn. We do this for the pure love of cinema, giving films the spotlight they deserve and celebrating them with fans who share our passion for the cinematic experience.”
A Multifaceted Visionary
Dr Frank Ezenekwe is not just the mastermind behind the American Film Awards; he is a British-American polymath with talents spanning design, acting, writing, and directing. His impressive accolades include the esteemed President’s Gold Award for Design from the Prince of Wales Trust. He holds a BA Honors degree in Design from the University of Wolverhampton, England, and an MBA in Management and Strategy.
His creative pursuits extend to the world of film, where he has written, produced, and directed notable feature films such as “Brownskin,” “The Gates of New York,” “Snowflake & Hustle,” and “Looking for Marvin.” Dr Ezenekwe’s acting portfolio boasts diverse roles, from appearances in “CSI: New York” to CBS’s “Undercovers,” “No Ordinary Family,” “Parenthood,” “Hung,” “Lord of The Rings Online,” “Herokin,” and “Cinema Verite,” where he shared the screen with acclaimed talents like James Gandolfini, Diane Lane, and Tim Robbins.
The Architect of Excellence
Dr Ezenekwe’s contributions extend beyond creative pursuits; he is the owner of the U.S. trademark for the American Film Awards®️. Alongside his wife, Dr Apostle Ijeoma Ezenekwe, founder of Allstars International Church, he serves as the Executive Producer of this grand cinematic celebration.

The American Film Awards will take center stage on Saturday, September 23rd, in Los Angeles, USA. This year’s event promises a more intimate and relaxed presentation, featuring film screenings, talent reviews, showcases, and opportunities for studio buyers and filmmakers eager to distribute their works in Hollywood.
