Why we didn’t tackle Mohbad’s petition against Sammy Larry over assault during video shoot with Zlatan – FCID

The police have officially spoken about the widely circulated petition Mohbad filed concerning the assault he experienced from Sammy Larry and his group during a video shoot with Zlatan, as well as the subsequent counter-petition.

The Lagos Annex of the Nigeria Police Force’s Force Criminal Investigation Department in Zone 2, Alagbon, disclosed that it summoned music promoter Samson Balogun, also known as Sam Larry, and others.

This action came after receiving a petition on June 27 from the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad, regarding alleged assault and other matters.

On Thursday night, the spokesperson for the Lagos Annex of the FCID, Oluniyi Ogundeyi, in a recent chat with PUNCH, said Mohbad submitted petition dated June 27, 2023, claimed that Sam Larry, along with a group of 15 individuals armed with weapons, forcefully entered the location of a video shoot where the late singer and another artist, Omoniyi Temidayo, known as Zlatan Ibile, were actively working. Mohbad asserted that they issued severe threats of violence.

The late singer alleged that they went on to vandalize equipment valued at over N5 million at the location and physically assaulted him, resulting in injuries. Mohbad narrowly managed to escape the scene.

The federal police department further noted that a lawyer to Sam Larry and the other suspects also wrote a counter-petition against Mohbad, alleging defamation of character, after the singer failed to show up to defend his case.

According to Ogundeyi, Mohbad failed to show up at the police station to adopt and defend his petition, and also provide proof of the allegations, to assist the police in prosecuting the suspects, if necessary.

The FCID spokesperson revealed that the police could not act on the petition due to Mohbad’s refusal to come up and adopt, defend, and also provide evidence to support the allegations made by him.

Ogundeyi said, “We received the petition, and followed up on the information provided in the petition, and the suspects were invited. But Mohbad refused to show up to defend his petition and also provide evidence to assist the police in carrying out a proper investigation and forward the matter to the legal department for prosecution, if necessary.

“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to a comprehensive investigation into this matter, as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has been tasked to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death. Rest assured, updates will be provided as investigations unfold.

“We encourage family members or close associates with valuable information to approach the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to assist in this process. In the meantime, we kindly request that individuals refrain from making statements or engaging in activities that could jeopardize the ongoing investigation. Your trust and support are deeply valued.”

Controversial socialite Sam Larry faced a fierce backlash on social media when a video emerged of him and a group harassing the late singer Mohbad.

The video captured Mohbad and Zlatan during a music video shoot, with Larry and his associates aggressively approaching Mohbad, causing him to flee in fear. Zlatan intervened to prevent any potential harm or bullying towards Mohbad
