‘Wizkid, Wande Coal took loans at some point in their careers,’ – music executive, Godwin Tom

Godwin Tom speaks on the length artists can go to invest in their career

In a recent revelation, seasoned music executive, Godwin Tom, has shed light on the financial struggles faced by renowned Nigerian artists.

Contrary to popular belief that these superstars effortlessly climbed the ladder of success, Tom disclosed that both Wizkid and Wande Coal had to resort to taking loans at some point in their illustrious careers.

He revealed this in an interview with 3Music TV in Accra, Ghana.

According to him, Nigerian artists made an investment in themselves to get to where they are now.

In his words:

Nigerian artists put their own money in achieving stardom. I will give you an example. I know for example that Wiz [kid] took a loan at some point for his career. He believed himself and bet on himself. Wande Coal did the same thing.

“If a Nigerian artist hears that his song is number one in Accra, he is showing up the next day. He is going to borrow money if he has to. He’s gonna come do radio interviews. He’s gonna find who he needs to talk to. He’s gonna come in and find out how he can capitalise on that attention. He would do some club appearances. He would make some money. He could enter this country with a $100 and leave with $20,000.”
