Save The Poor And Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI), weighs in on the death of Mohbad and the controversies surrounding him and his former record label

Save The Poor And Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI), a human rights advocacy group, has stated that Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, would not have died if the Lagos State Police Command had processed his petition over alleged threat to life.

This was announced by the group on Sunday 17 September,2023.

recall that the fast rising singer, Mohbad, passed away few days ago at the age of 27.

SPANCI has stated that the singer will still be alive if the petition he filed with the police regarding a threat to his life is examined and probed immediately.

SPANCI President, Comrade Yemi Ezekiel Bello, in a statement on Sunday, titled ‘Justice for Mohbad,’ advised the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to handle the matter professionally, based on the allegations in the petition and viral videos that have indicted some people.

He urged the IGP to guarantee that anyone found guilty in connection with the singer’s death is dealt with legally.

The statement read:

We in Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI) send our heartfelt condolences to the wife, son and the entire family of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba a.k.a. Mohbad who died in mysterious circumstances.

We want the federal government of Nigeria to look into the matter since some NDLEA officers were alleged and drugs abuse involved. We believe nobody is greater than the law and justice to one is justice to all.

We believe if police institution has done what they are doing now when he wrote petition to the police alleging some people of threat to his life and their assaults on him was treated and the Lagos state police did the needful at the right time, keeping to their constitutional duty which includes protection of life and property of Nigerians and also investigate crime, apprehend and prosecute offender in court of law Mohbad would not have died.

Though the IGP has given his directive however, we want them to critically and professionally handle the matter based on the allegations in his earlier petition and many viral videos Indicting some people and the alleged NDLEA officers so that innocent person’s will not be punished and offenders will be apprehended as we beg the family to allow law enforcement agency to do their job even if the corpse will be exhumed for autopsy.

We are of the opinion that Mohbad death was planned in such a confusing way to affect prosecution and justice and that he was killed because he left some group of people for a better life of decency hence his death needs to be probed and thorough investigation be done so that any person found guilty may be dealt with according to the law in the interest of justice to avoid a repeat of same in the future and protect the right to life of the people because when right to life is violated other rights can not be exercised.”
