Following the untimely death of his close friend and regular collaborator, Mohbad, singer Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, popularly known as Bella Shmurda, has stated that his mother advised him not to get back to Nigeria just yet.
On Saturday, September 23, 2023, Bella Shmurda delivered a speech at the candlelight vigil in Canada for Mohbad.
During the candlelight procession for Mohbad in Canada, Bella Shmurda disclosed that he had learned the heartbreaking news of Mohbad’s passing a few days after he had left Nigeria.
The news was much more devastating given how far away Nigeria was.
According to Bella, the call he got from his mother made his already-tense situation worse. She had advised him to wait to return to Nigeria until the tension and pandemonium had abated.
In his words:
“Mohbad is my brother and best friend. Sadly, three days after I left Nigeria, I got a call that he was dead.
“My mum had to call me not to come back to Nigeria yet. I understand what she’s saying.
“RIP Mohbad. God bless wherever you are, even in your grave. I don’t know what to say. Thank you all for coming. And justice for Mohbad!”
Mohbad had passed away on a Tuesday, 12th of September, 2023. However, the exact cause of his demise remains undisclosed at this time.
