He graciously shared insights into the origins of his illustrious career, following a claim by his colleague, Kanayo O Kanayo, that he became part of Nollywood before him.

The actor clarified that Edochie launched into cinema projects before him, but when it came to Nollywood, he was a senior to the Lion of Africa.
In a noteworthy response, Pete Edochie, during a recent interview with Afia TV, articulated that he is older than Nigeria’s movie industry, Nollywood.
The revered cinematic figure emphasized that back in 1985 when he portrayed his role in “Things Fall Apart,” the very concept of Nollywood had not yet taken root. According to him, the film industry was still in its embryonic stages.
The patriarch of the Edochie clan went on to reveal that Nollywood only came into being seven years later with the groundbreaking release of “Living in Bondage.”
His words;
“I am senior to the movie industry. When I did Things Fall Apart in 1985, there was nothing like Nollywood. By then, Nollywood was slumbering sonorously in the womb of time.”
Pete Edochie delved into how “Things Fall Apart” served as a catalyst for his illustrious career, propelling him to fame as an actor.
He recounted his globetrotting experiences and even mentioned how the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) ventured to Nigeria to interview him and arranged for him to visit America for a meeting with Chinua Achebe, the esteemed author of the book that inspired the film.
