- Blackface, a seasoned music industry stalwart, has vehemently decried the surge in morally questionable lyrics that contemporary Nigerian singers are infusing into their songs.
- Singling out Rema as a case in point, he unleashed a verbal barrage on the young artist, lambasting him for his perceived lack of respect, especially with regard to a famous line from his chart-topping track ‘Charm’.
The veteran Nigerian Dancehall artist, Blackface, has taken a swipe at junior colleague, Rema, for his choice of lyrics in a popular song that he deemed both haughty and disrespectful.
Blackface made a recent appearance on OAP Nedu’s “Honest Bunch Podcast” and didn’t mince words when he shared his perspective on the shallow lyrics of contemporary Afropop artists, suggesting they don’t hold a candle to the lyrical prowess of musicians from the good old days.
The singer used Rema as a prime illustration of an artist who, in his opinion, portrayed African music negatively.
He highlighted Rema’s well-known lyrics, “I know you senior me..I get money pass your papa” from the hit song ‘Charm,’ where the young artist boldly declared his affluence surpassing that of a lady’s father.
He went on to state that, according to what flows from Rema’s lyrics, the young artist appears to be lacking in moral content, and this, in his eyes, doesn’t cast Nigerian music in a favorable light.

This is coming few months after Blackface made headlines over a claim he asserted about the rave-of-the-moment Asake.
Blackface, while reacting to the report of director TG Omori receiving $165K to shoot Asake’s ‘Joha’ music video, claimed the YBNL star ignored him despite using his song.
In a post via his Twitter handle, Blackface wrote:
“You spend $165k dollars to slot musical video for your artist Una no fit use 100naira call the owner of the song before una remix am Una dey form say una smart I believe E better make una do the right thing because this one I no go sorry for una ! I dey come !
