“Humility is a waste of time” – Asake says, mixed reactions trails statement
  • Asake has triggered controversial reactions to his remark on humility, especially in the music industry.
  • In a video, the singer said humility to him seems like a waste of time particularly because he is taken for granted.
  • Asake said ego makes people seem inaccessible, which leads to likeness from people.

Popular Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, aka Asake has opened up about his life. According to him, some people once took him for granted because he was “too humble.”

Learning from the experience, he said humility to him seems like an absolute waste of time.

In a video making the rounds on social media, Asake, while chatting with a group of friends, stated that it is better to be egoistic than to be “too humble,” as he emphasised that excessive humility often brings disrespect.

Speaking from experience, Asake said that when someone is egoistic, people feel the person is inaccessible and place more value on the person. In his words:

“To me, humility is like a waste of time. People don’t appreciate it. At the end of the day, life is about your perception. That is how I think. It’s my world.

“I’ve been around people, that I tried to let them say who I am but they didn’t appreciate it. As an artiste, if you come to somewhere, if you’re humble, they will take you for granted. But if you have ego, they feel like you’re not accessible so they will like you more.

People would rather see what you’re doing than you showing them humility. So, just do what you need to do.”

In reaction, many affirmed his statement, stating that it’s the reality of life. A few others said it is better to stay humble but not stupid. Another fan stated that it must be the reason Asake’s senior colleague, Davido is not appreciated. See video and some reactions below:
