WizKid announces 100 million naira Christmas giveaway as tribute to late mum

The Afrobeats sensation, WizKid, raking in the riches from his hit-packed music journey, is set to dish out some serious holiday cheer right in the heart of his hometown, Surulere. With Christmas just around the bend, the music maestro spilled the beans that he'll be sharing a cool N100 million among the kids in his old hood—all in sweet memory of his dearly departed mum.


Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid, the Afrobeats sensation, has disclosed his humanitarian initiatives for this year’s Christmas, all dedicated to honoring his late mother, Jane Dolapo Morayo Balogun.

Earlier reports from WITHIN NIGERIA detailed the unfortunate loss experienced by the music star, as his beloved mother passed away on August 18, 2023, in London.

Subsequently, he organized an extravagant burial ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, to honor and bid farewell to the departed.

In the wake of the recent loss, the musician has been garnering attention on the internet with a series of generous and noteworthy deeds.

The Ojuelegba crooner, through his Instagram story, has just announced his intention to generously donate a significant sum of N100 million to children. The distribution is scheduled to kick off on the night of December 11 in Surulere, Lagos.

Wizkid underscored that his act of generosity is a sincere tribute to his late mother, Morayo.

He wrote, “100M for the kids for Christmas! Lord bless us all 😇 start in Surulere tonight!

“All in Morayo’s name! The love of my life! ❤️❤️🕊️”

This is coming hours after the Nigerian superstar ignited a fresh wave of online reactions with a video capturing his recent generous act.

In the viral video sighted online, the Afrobeats icon exuded high energy as he distributed bundles of naira notes on the streets of Lagos.

Seated comfortably in the back seat of his car, the Ojuelegba hitmaker scattered money into the air, prompting pedestrians on the road to hurriedly grab their share of the flying notes.
