Reality TV star Sheggz has come to the defense of his girlfriend, Bella Okagbue, against a wave of criticism targeting her speaking voice.
Sheggz took to X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the trend of faking accents and applauded Bella for her authenticity.
Expressing his disappointment at the prevalent body shaming and negative comments directed at women in 2023, Sheggz emphasized that such behaviour is unacceptable.
In his tweet, he wrote;
“So it’s now cool to be faking an accent. I love the fact that my woman is real, true to herself. I think it’s sad that in 2023 people want to body shame a woman and speak down on her. It will never be ok, and if she overreacted then it’s understandable because enough is enough.”
This comes on the heels of a previous incident where Bella Okagbue directly confronted a troll who mocked her singing voice.
Within Nigeria had reported the exchange, revealing that Bella fiercely defended her Nigerian accent and expressed frustration with constant body and voice shaming.
The troll, attempting to downplay the incident, claimed that the comment was not intended to be hurtful.
However, evidence uncovered by Bella’s fans suggests a pattern of intentional provocation through consistent trolling over several months.
This comes right after Bella’s public outcry about not being liked by some Nigerians who had trolled her for asserting that she and Sheggz were too expensive to work with.
