Actress Taraji P. Henson, renowned for her performances in movies like “Hidden Figures” and her stellar portrayal of Cookie Lyon in “Empire,” has recently spoken out about her frustration with the rampant exploitation in the film industry.
Taraji Henson expressed her displeasure with Black women being used in the entertainment sector.
The actress bemoaned how tired she was of being taken advantage of and seeing other Black female performers voice similar complaints.
Taraji Henson claimed in a recent SiriusXM podcast interview that she was paid significantly less than what was rightfully hers.
In her words:
“I’m just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do and being paid a fraction of the cost.
“I’m tired of my sisters saying the same thing over and over. You get tired. I hear people go, ‘You work a lot.’ The math ain’t mathing, every time I negotiate, it’s like I’m starting from the bottom”.
Similarly a Nollywood actor shares ordeal with producers, he revealed that they will promise you N10K and end up giving you N1K.
In an interview conducted by @skibocomedy7, the actor opened up about the dire living conditions he faces, residing in a dilapidated zinc house riddled with holes.
He recounted the disheartening practice of being offered a job worth N10k but upon completion, he would be handed a mere N1k, with the assurance that the remaining sum would be transferred to his account.Regrettably, the promised payments will never come.
He added that such a discouraging situation caused him to back off from the job .
Moreover, the actor revealed the deplorable working conditions he often encounter on set.
He added that producers are often less concerned about the well-being of actors; don’t care whether thespian is sick or hungry.
He noted that food is not even provided on set and when a person manages to buy food for him or herself, the producers will immediately demand the actor’s service.
