Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has appointed renowned singer Harrison Okiri, widely known as Harrysong, as his Executive Assistant on Entertainment. Harrysong shared the news on his Instagram page, unveiling a copy of the official appointment letter. The appointment, effective from December 22, 2023, marks the artist’s official foray into political and administrative roles.
Expressing gratitude to the governor, Harrysong wrote, “Now address me as Hon Superstar Harrysong. Thank you so much, my governor, for entrusting me with this office to work. Deltans get ready for KINGMAKERS March 30th, and Ukodo International Festival 2024.”
The Delta State-born artist, known for his award-winning contributions to the music industry as a singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, has achieved significant recognition over the years. His tribute song to Nelson Mandela earned him the “Most Downloaded Callertune Award” at The Headies in 2013.
In subsequent years, Harrysong continued to receive accolades, winning awards such as the Best Contemporary Afro Video for “Kolombo” in 2014 and the Best Pop Single at the Headies in 2017 for “Reggae Blues.” His remarkable career also earned him the Sun Award for “Creative Person of The Year” in 2015 and the Special Recognition Prize at The Beatz Awards in 2021.
With this recent appointment, Harrysong ventures into a new realm, contributing to the development of the entertainment sector in Delta State under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
