Nigerian-American actress, Ayo Edebiri, others win big at 2024 Golden Globe Awards

Edebiri won the award for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy for her performance as Sydney Adamu in the series, ‘The Bear.’

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards turned out to be an unforgettable night for Nigerian-American actress Ayo Edebiri and several other talented individuals as they walked away with the highly coveted prizes.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards took place on Sunday in Beverly Hills, California, at The Beverly Hilton in the United States.

Edebiri won the award for ‘Best Performance by an Actress’ in a Musical or Comedy Television Series for her role as ‘Sydney Adamu’ in the show “The Bear.”

She won the prize by handily defeating Elle Fanning, Rachel Brosnahan, Natasha Lyonne, Quinta Brunson, and Selena Gomez.

The Bear” also took up the prize for Best Television Comedy Series.

“Oppenheimer” emerged as the greatest victor of the evening, taking home five accolades, including Best Director for Christopher Nolan and Best Motion Picture (drama).

Remarkably, “Barbie,” the film with the most nominations, took home just two prizes.

In 2023, Golden Globes ceremony hit low all-time NBC ratings.

Despite over 6.3 million viewers, the 2023 Golden Globes award ceremony received a low all-time NBC rating.

The 80th annual event was held on January 10 and featured historic wins such as Angela Bassett and ‘Abbott Elementary,’ among others, as well as many memorable moments.

The award show was taken off the airwaves in 2022 due to backlash, but it returned this week without the expected bang.

According to an entertainment website, ThatGrapeJuice, despite securing a viewership of 6.3 million, the ‘Globes’ finished the rating race as the night’s second most-watched program – falling behind CBS’ hit series, ‘FBI‘ (which garnered an audience of 7.4 million).

Marking the lowest number of views ever for the ceremony, the sum represents only a third of the size of 2020’s 18.3 million ‘Globes’ viewers.

While it’s fair to mention the numbers listed above don’t include any reports from Peacock or other digital platforms where the show aired, the uptick those entities account for will likely not make a substantial difference in final viewership figures.
