Yemi Alade gives surprising reply as fan tells her “You’re better than Tiwa Savage”

Recently, a netizen attempted to stir the pot by putting Yemi in the spotlight over Tiwa, and she responded with a swift and spicy retort.


Nigerian afro/highlife songstress, Yemi Eberechi Alade, didn’t mince words when responding to a fan’s attempt at pitting her against colleague Tiwa Savage.

An X user, @ThatNigerianlad didn’t hold back on social media platform, proclaimed in her comment section that Yemi Alade stands above the ‘Somebody’s Son’ crooner.

In a thoughtful reply, Yemi Alade advised the fan against comparing them, stressing that such comparisons steal joy.

The ‘Johnny’ singer emphasized that both she and Tiwa are succeeding individually, urging music enthusiasts to support them collectively.

“Comparison is the thief of Joy. We’re both winning…. celebrate and support us all,” the singer tweeted.

Football fans were thrilled by Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Yemi Alade as she performed at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday in Abidjan.

The Nigerian singer teamed up with other artistes from Africa to perform the theme song of the 2023 AFCON, ‘Akwaba,’ which means welcome in the Baoule language in Cote d’Ivoire.

Alade noted that the opportunity was a dream come true for her.

Since 2016, I have envisioned performing at the stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by hundreds of dancers and people.

“Seven years later, I’m performing at AFCON. It is indeed an honour and a dream come true. It’s just the beginning,” she said.

The rendition of the 2023 AFCON anthem also feature legendary Ivorian group Magic System and Egyptian singer Mohamed Ramadan.

The opening ceremony is taking place at the 60,000-capacity Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan.

The tournament, which kicks off on Saturday with 24 nations in six stadiums across five cities, will draw to a close on Feb. 11.
