Prominent Nigerian dancer Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, better known by her stage as Kaffy, has revealed that she began dancing as a means of enhancing her mental well-being.
Kaffy disclosed this in a recent interview with Channels TV interview.
The dancer spoke about her background, stating that she turned to dancing for comfort as a child because her parents were divorced.
She claimed that she later developed her dancing abilities to “give people life” by using them in a fitness awareness event at the Lagos State National Stadium.
In her words:
“Before I even thought of dancing as a profession, I always saw it as something to help me with my mental health.
“And growing up in that average Nigerian household, you have divorced parenting. You are trying to navigate through life as a young teenager. Dancing was the art form in which I found solace. I used it as an escape to somewhere I could become something.
And when I related with others in the social environment, I found out that people needed some escape. I started exploring that at the national stadium until I found the entertainment space.”
In another story, Kaffy addresses those saying she is not qualified to give marriage advice because hers failed.
Kaffy who revealed that her marriage has been over for “almost a year now”, said her journey to healing and clarity “took a little over three years”.
She added that she started healing from the inside before she left the marriage almost a year ago. She explained that the lessons she’s sharing now about marriage are not to breed hate but so that others can learn from her experience.
