Twitter personality Daniel Regha has expressed his strong disapproval of a viral video showcasing flamboyant cyber fraudster Hushpuppi celebrating the birthday of Tunde Ednut from his prison cell.
Hushpuppi, whose real name is Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, is currently serving 11-year prison sentence in the United States for money laundering.
Despite being in the prison, Hushpuppi managed to celebrate Tunde Ednut’s 38th birthday in grand style, prompting Daniel Regha to voice his concerns over the glorification of a criminal.
Daniel Regha urged Nigerians to refrain from portraying Hushpuppi as an icon or a positive role model, emphasizing that he should be treated as a criminal since he is imprisoned.
Daniel Regha pinpointed the prevalence of yahoo boys (online fraudsters), as one of the country’s significant challenges.
He argued that figures like Hushpuppi have contributed to the normalization of cybercrime, urging the public to be more discerning about the influencers they celebrate.
In his words;
“Hushpuppi is a criminal & should be treated as one since he’s in prison; He often make headlines but Nigerians need to stop acting like he’s an icon or a good role model. One of the biggest problems we are facing today is yahoo boys, which the likes of Hushpuppi encouraged. Let’s be mindful what we encourage in the name of cruise.”
In another post, he added;
“The video of Hushpuppi being served different meals in prison is wr¤ng (if true). He shouldn’t have access to a phone, & needs to be paying for his crimes. Again, Nigerians who catch cruise whenever he makes the headlines are part of the issue; How do y’all criticize politicians but glorify yahoo boys & criminals? That’s pathetic.”
