- After Davido lost in all three Grammy categories, his hype man, Special Spesh, voiced his discontent on social media.
- Spesh criticized the results, implying the Grammys tried to diminish Afrobeat’s success, vowing not to let them undermine African music.
Following Afrobeat artist, Davido’s loss in all three categories at the Grammys, his hype man, Special Spesh, took to social media to express himself.
Davido had been nominated for Best Global Album for “Timeless,” Best African Performance for “Unavailable,” and Best Global Music Performance for “Feel.” However, he did not win in any category.
Special Spesh criticized the Grammy results on his page, suggesting that the white-dominated institution tried to downplay the success of Afrobeats genres.
He emphasized that despite the setback, they remain undeterred and won’t allow the Grammys to undermine Afrobeats or African music as a whole.
He wrote:
“WE WONT GIVE YOU THE POWER TO DUMB AFROBEATS DOWN OR AFRO FUSION OR ANYTHING AFRICAN!!
THATS (white) AMERICAS PROBLEM!! WHEN THINGS START TO TAKE OVER AND GET MASSIVE THEY ALWAYS WHAT A PART THEN TRY TO HAVE A SAY THEN TRY TO CONTROL!!!”
