2024 Grammys: ‘You’re everlasting winners’ – Sanwo-Olu sends message to Davido, Asake, others
  • Recall that Nigerian nominees at the Grammys lost at all category 
  • Reacting to the news, Babajide Sanwo-Olu consoled them, reminded them that they are winners who have done so well for themselves.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, In a heartfelt message, has praised Nigerian nominees for the 66th Grammys Award despite their defeat.

Recall that none of the Nigerian artists who were nominated won in any of the categories.

Tyla, a South African singer, won the Grammy for Best African Music Performance, defeating a group of Nigerian artists that included Davido, Asake, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr.

In reaction to the news on Monday, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the Nigerian candidates not to let their lack of success discourage them.

He declared them as “everlasting winners” for their immense contributions to the Nigerian music industry.

In a post on his official X, Sanwo Olu wrote:

“A special shoutout to @davido, @burnaboy, @ayrastarr, @asakemusik, @Olamide and @temsbaby and all Nigerian talents represented as nominees at the Grammy’s, the apex music award in the world.

“Your mastery reached unparalleled heights on those exclusive platforms, showcasing world class talent we are immensely proud of.

“To those who may feel disheartened by the results, remember, in the eyes of your fans and Nigerians, you are everlasting winners and with every global arena and stadiums you fill up, your representation of Afrobeats and Nigeria is unparalleled, and soon you will light up the stages you desire as triumphant victors.

“Cheers to more timeless moments as you continue to tell the world our stories with your music.”

Following various agitations from Nigerians, for their singer’s loss at the Grammys, Headies awards react to their losing the nominations.

The announcement sparked reactions on social media, with a Twitter personality known as One Jobless Boy suggesting that, given the Grammy disappointments, the Headies should now be the primary award ceremony for Nigerian artists.

One Jobless Boy took to Twitter to express this sentiment. Surprisingly, the Headies official Twitter account quoted the tweet, signaling agreement with the sentiment, and added an emoji that further emphasized their endorsement of the statement.
