Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayodeji Richard Makun popularly known as AY Makun, has come to the defense of Super Eagles’ star, Alex Iwobi.
The footballer recently deleted his Instagram account due to relentless criticism from Nigerians, prompting AY Makun to address the issue publicly.
AY Makun took to social media to share photos showing Alex Iwobi’s crucial role in the Super Eagles’ successful qualification for the African Cup of Nations.
In a heartfelt appeal, the comedian pointed out the damaging consequences of cyberbullying and expressed his dismay at the mistreatment of the young footballer by fellow Nigerians.
The comedian questioned why Nigerians were perplexed when other international stars hesitated to represent their nation, emphasizing the need to halt the constant criticism and instead, shower Iwobi with love and support.
He went on to lament the unjust treatment of Iwobi, emphasizing that the footballer’s only crime was to represent his fatherland.
AY Makun urged Nigerians to think beyond personal interests and consider the negative effects of their actions, urging them to promote a culture of care and respect on the Internet.
In his words;
“Anyone can become a victim of cyberbullying. Malicious information posted on the Internet can spread far and wide at an instant, and it is always difficult to be deleted completely. The immediacy of the spread makes it hard for victims to defend themselves or take precautions. The harm caused by cyberbullying is always ignored by computer or mobile phone users.
It is so sad to see how you all have exhibited various forms of cyberbullying on a young man whose only crime was to come and represent his father land. Tomorrow, you all will still be wondering why the likes of Saka and others are never going to play for Nigeria?
It’s time to think beyond your personal interests and look at the negative effects of your evil actions. Let’s help promote a culture of care and respect on the Internet and prevent cyberbullying. Kindly share a ❤️ for @alexanderiwobi on this post.
