“It felt like labour” – Deyemi Okanlawon speaks on producing ‘All’s Fair In Love’

Deyemi opens up on the challenges he faced while producing his first movie


Deyemi Okanlawon shares the intense feeling and process of producing his latest movie ‘All’s Fair in Love’.

As a seasoned actor turned producer, Okanlawon delves into the challenges and triumphs of bringing his new movie on the big screen.

In an interview with Hip TV, he explained that, despite being in the Nigerian film industry for 11 years, taking on the job of a producer allowed him to see a different side of himself and have a better understanding of the industry.

Deyemi Okanlawon said:

“It felt like labour, I thought I understood the film industry until I started producing… my eyes saw Shege Promax Ultra, It shock me, it stretched me… But I will do it over again, it was the most exhilarating experience of my life. I found new skills and new creative muscle that I had no idea I had.”

He also revealed that the church was his first encounter with acting, which finally led to his first engagement.

“I had no plans to go into professional acting, it was just ministry.. random conversation with someone led to, oh there is an audition somewhere and I went and I got two roles from two different projects from one audition… and my next project came after that.”

All’s Fair In Love grossed ₦7.6 million on its first day in Nigerian cinemas and will be released in Ghana.

Deyemi also revealed that he has never received any significant award in the Nigerian movie industry.

Despite his incredible talent and noteworthy performances, the actor shared his surprising reality of being continually overlooked by award panels.

Deyemi Okanlawon stated that despite not being recognized by national award organizers, he has remained motivated, emphasizing that he enjoys encouraging himself.
