Former BBNaija winner, Mercy Eke has opened up about her experience as the runner-up in the All-Stars edition of the reality show, revealing why she believes she fell short of clinching victory for the second time.
In an exclusive interview on Celebrity Quickies, hosted on comedian AY’s YouTube channel, the 2019 ‘Pepper Dem’ season winner expressed her thoughts on the unexpected turn of events in the All-Stars edition, where she lost to 22-year-old Ilebaye in 2023.
Mercy Eke suggested that a key factor contributing to her defeat was the public’s apparent aversion to winners attempting a comeback.
According to her, she encountered a shift in public perception, with some people expressing reservations about her participation in the All-Stars edition due to her previous victory.
“The first time, I went into the Big Brother House, it was all cute, lovely people. I played the game and I won the show. And I thought it was all cute, then I went back for the second time, and I found out that people were allergic to winners,” Mercy said during the interview.
She elaborated on the sentiments she encountered during the All-Stars edition, where some sections of the audience appeared reluctant to support her bid for a second victory.
Mercy expressed that some believed she had already achieved success and should give others a chance.
“They were like, ‘She had that, she can’t have it again. She has this, she can’t have it again.’ That’s why I did not win for the second time because they are allergic to winners. They were like, ‘She is already rich, give others a chance.
“This second experience, I loved it. I will not even take anything away from it because it made me see people for who they truly are. It can only be God’s doing because without this second experience, I would not know a lot of things. I didn’t know that it is a crime to want to win again. But anyways, I am still a winner, ” Mercy Eke added.
