- Nigerian rapper, Odumodublvck challenges the notion that any established artist paved the way for Wizkid and Burna Boy’s success.
- Veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem claims to have laid the foundation for contemporary Afrobeats stars through his 2004 rebellion.
- Eedris Abdulkareem argues that his sacrifices paved the way for artists like Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.
- Odumodublvck counters Eedris Abdulkareem, asserts that success is attributed to hard work, determination, and divine will, not industry veterans.
He insisted that no one paved the way for these artists, attributing their achievements to hard work, determination, and divine will.
According to Odumodublvck, while artists can inspire each other, taking credit for paving the way is an attempt to claim “God’s glory.”
He emphasized the individual struggles and realities that every artist faces, stating that inspiration comes from one another, but paving the way is solely the work of a higher power.
“Nobody paved the way for Wizkid or Burna [Boy]. They hustled. All of us get our individual struggles and realities. Inspired? Yes. Paved the way? That’s God,” Odumodublvck said.
Odumodublvck’s comments were prompted by recent statements from veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem, who claimed to have laid the foundation for the success of contemporary Afrobeats stars such as Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.
Eedris Abdulkareem attributed his 2004 rebellion against mistreatment of Nigerian entertainers by concert promoters, including a historic fight with 50 Cent, as the catalyst for the international recognition and acceptance of Nigerian music.
In response, Odumodublvck directly addressed Eedris Abdulkareem’s assertions, stating that no human being, including himself, has paved the way for his success.
Odumodublvck wrote;
“Everybody dey claim pave the way. Everybody trynna claim God’s glory. None of you n*ggas paved the way for no one.
Nobody paved the way for Wizkid or Burna [Boy]. They hustled. All of us get our individual struggles and realities. Inspired? Yes. Paved the way? That’s God.
No human being in the history of music has paved the way for Odumodublvck. That’s God. So tomorrow make no OG come dey talk say e paved way for me, cause bros, you were not there when I was in the deng! So keep quiet sir.”
