Amidst the prevailing economic challenges in Nigeria, the venerable figure of Nollywood, Kanayo O Kanayo, has issued a cautionary message to the Igbo community regarding their involvement in the proposed nationwide protest against the administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
Kanayo’s warning, conveyed through a widely circulated video posted on his official Instagram account on Saturday night, serves as a response to the escalating economic woes plaguing the nation.
The actor cautioned that the Igbo community often finds itself disproportionately targeted in various aspects of Nigerian society, underscoring the importance for the Igbo people to unite and resonate with Davido’s hit song, ‘unavailable’.
In articulating the regrettable state of the economic crisis, Kanayo emphasized that if the Igbo populace is deemed unworthy of leadership responsibilities within Nigeria, then the same skepticism extends to their capacity for effective protest.
The movie veteran averred in parts;
“Hunger has no religion. I have been looking for stores where only Muslims or Christians buy but I can’t see. So, I want to urge all Igbos to sing along with Davido’s ‘I’m unavailable’. Ndigbo are not available for protest in Nigeria.
“It’s unfortunate that we are all going through this economic hardship but the fact is we are not available because in our own matters.
“We are always the target, we should learn from what happened. Let’s guard ourselves and ensure that people who said we cannot be trusted with leadership, we also want to tell them that we can also not be trusted with protest.”
