Why everyone should experience pain that purifies the soul – Timi Dakolo

Timi Dakolo reveals that his song, 'Omo Ayo' was inspired by his pain

Nigerian musician Timi Dakolo speaks about the transformative power of pain and struggle.

The singer revealed this during a talk with popular media personality Chude Jideonwo on the current episode of the “With Chude” podcast.

Timi Dakolo compared a person’s pain to fertilizer. Using the agony of childbirth as evidence for his claim, he highlighted how it transforms a woman on a deeper level.

He made a point by using his song Omo Ayo, which highlighted his resilience in the face of hardship and sadness.

He said:

“Everybody should go through a certain level of pain because it purifies the soul. It’s like fertiliser. If you have not experienced a certain level of pain, there are certain things you can never know.

“You know how the Bible says, ‘And he came to himself, the prodigal son.’ It was not the time he was enjoying the money. It was when it was finished, and he was eating pig food.”

“I was telling my friend the other day that when a woman gives birth, labour pain changes her. After that, just watch the person; it does something to them. Either they swing to the far left or to the right. So you will choose. That’s the meaning of the ‘Omo Ayo.’ See, my heart and all its breakings, life and all its takings, I will still remain Omo Ayo”.

The singer shared the message on his Instagram page, stating that the female friend was in a room full of strangers.

According to Timi Dakolo, the lady consistently kicked against the suggestion when his name was called as a performer for the gig until one of the strangers came over to ask if he had a problem with the friend.

Dakolo stated that he eventually got the job, and when they met during sound check, the lady made a disparaging remark about his voice, but he chose to remain silent and simply exchanged pleasantries with her.
