I expected her to cry – Black Coffee recounts ex-wife’s ungrateful reaction to car gift

Black Coffee opens up on experience with ex-wife Mbali

South African singer Black Coffee has spoken out about his  ex-wife Enhle Mbali’s unappreciative reaction to an expensive car he bought for her during their marriage, which disappointed him.

In a recent interview with Kaya 959, the Grammy-winning DJ claimed that the reaction he had upon presenting his gift to his wife was unexpected.

He recounted how he anticipated tears of gratitude and joy when he presented her with the expensive gift, but instead was met with a cold and ungrateful response.

He claimed that the experience made him feel as if his efforts were not valued or appreciated.

“The response wasn’t what I expected; she wasn’t excited. I expected her to even cry, but she was just like; ‘Oh, nice, thank you.’ And it sat with me heavily for a long time as someone who was not appreciating,” he said.

Recall that Black Coffee and Mbali’s marriage ended in 2019 when she accused the record producer of infidelity and abuse.

During their marriage, the singer had two children with different women.

In 2022, South Africa’s Black Coffee Emerges as the First African DJ To Win Grammy Award.

The revered DJ knocked off contenders Illenium, Major Lazer, Marshmello, Sylvan Esso and Ten City, to win the Best Dance/Electronic Album award for his seventh studio album, ‘Subconsciously.’

Expressing his gratitude, Black Coffee, who was accompanied by his son Esona to receive the prestigious plaque, said; “I want to thank God for the gift of music and being able to share it with the world, to heal souls and help people go through whatever they are going through in life.”

“Thank you to my fans around the world for believing in me. I want to thank my family and my children,” he added in his Grammy speech, while thanking his fans.
