Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has opened up about some personal and emotional experiences in the recording studio, revealing that she often finds herself crying while capturing certain songs.
Tems disclosed that the depth of emotion she pours into her music can sometimes overwhelm her, leading her to cry during the recording process.
According to her, she cries because most of the songs she records are very personal to her.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Tems said:
“I cried while making some of my songs because they’re very personal to me,”
She stated that almost all her songs were created from freestyles.
Speaking on what inspires her the most, the singer said:
“What inspires me most is the season that I am in in life coupled with music that I’ve heard, people that I love; Frank Ocean, Asa, Sade, those are the people that inspired me, and helped me in my creative process.”
In another interview, Tems stated that God is the center of everything she does credits everything she has to him .
the performer emphasized that she incorporates prayer into her daily routine, particularly while she is traveling.
“I have a routine and a couple of practices and prayer is one of them. Every time I’m on the road, in a plane or in a car, I’m always listening to a message of some sorts,”She said.
Tems noted that many people have different beliefs and emphasized how important her relationship with God is to her on her journey.
‘I know what I’ve been through. It’s important that people know that I didn’t come here by myself and everything has been orchestrated by God and I wanna be as honest as possible no matter how much backlash, some people might think it’s weird but it’s okay. I stand on what I believe in. People have different beliefs and I get that and I have to thank him,” she added.
