Mide Martins insulted me, said I look like a monkey – Habibat Jinad

Habibat Jinad has relived an experience that happened over 12 years ago with her colleague, Mide Martins.
The actress recalled while she was on set and they were asked to fall on their knees as punishment for being wrong.
Habibat Jinad said Mide Martins got to the set, thinking she was guilty, pointed to her and abused her with her skin colour, saying she looks like a monkey.
This statement pushed her to decide to start bleaching her skin in 2012.

Nigerian film actress, Habibat Jinad has recounted an unforgettable experience with her senior colleague, Mide Martins.

In an interview with Biola Bayo on her talk show, Talk To B, she recounted how Mide Martins once insulted her with her skin color on a movie set.

According to her, they were on the set of Mide’s husband, Afeez Owo’s movie set, when a colleague of theirs did something wrong and she was amongst those punished for it.

She revealed that Mide Martins used her skin color to insult her in the presence of everyone and said her face was as dark as a monkey’s own.

Habibat Jinad stated that the words from Mide Martins pained her so much that she contemplated bleaching her skin. She then decided to bleach her skin in the year 2012. The film actress said:

“At a rehearsal ground at Afeez Owo’s set, something happened, a colleague of mine did something and I wasn’t the one who did that thing and they said we should kneel. Mrs. Mide Martins was there, my boss was there and some other people and Mide Martins compared it to a monkey’s skin. And it got to me. She even complained about my skin, saying I was too dark and this made me contemplate bleaching my skin to please her and others”.
