Renowned American rapper and record label executive Gucci Mane, recently shared insights on the high number of artists signed to his 1017 label who are currently in prison.
During an appearance on his wife’s podcast, “All Things Keyshia Ka’Oir,” Mane speaks on the complex issues that have led to this phenomenon.
When asked by the host, “The street wants to know why all your 1017 artists keep going to jail.”
Gucci Mane replied:
“Well, that was how I was going back and forth in jail. I try to help those artists that I see a lot of myself in [them]. I feel like if I’m not helping them, who else is going to help them? Nobody sees that part of the story.”
Mane emphasized that these individuals have compelling stories to share, shaped by their experiences in the trenches.
He believes that his own experiences as an ex-convict enable him to relate and offer support.
“They definitely have a story to tell. They come from the trenches. I want to help. I feel like I can relate to them. I know what they got going on.”
Three 1017 artists, Pooh Shiesty, Foogiano, and Young Thug, are currently serving different jail terms.
In another news, American rapper, Rod Wave arrested for possession of firearm.
According to official arrest records, he was taken into custody in Manatee County, Florida on Wednesday.
The St. Petersburg Police Department, during a press conference held after the arrest, claimed that Rod Wave was linked to a gang-related shooting in Florida. This incident occurred outside the Sonic Sports Bar in St. Petersburg, resulting in four bystanders being injured.
The shooting took place on Sunday, March 31, St. Petersburg Police Chief Mike Kovacsev stated that three of the apprehended assailants (identified as Christopher Atkins, Keith Westby, and Kevontre Wesby) are allegedly associated with the ‘Young Gangsters’ gang. Additionally, two more individuals are currently in the process of being arrested.
