Nollywood actress Dorcas Fapson, known as Ms DSF, opened up on a hurtful encounter she had with a man who rejected her due to her childhood circumstances.
During the podcast, which featured host Moet Abebe and co-anchor Tolanibaj, Ms DSF recounted the shocking moment when she disclosed to a potential partner that she had lost her mother at a young age.
Shockingly, the response she received was one of rejection. The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, told Ms DSF that he couldn’t pursue a relationship with her because she hadn’t grown up in a “two-parent household.”
In her poignant recounting of the encounter, Ms DSF expressed her disbelief and hurt, questioning whether she could be held accountable for circumstances beyond her control.
“The most craziest thing that someone has ever said to me was when I told a guy that I lost my mum as a child and he said he could never date me. He said that he can’t date someone who wasn’t raised in a two-parent household. And I get that but could I have prevented my mum from dying? Is that my fault?,” Ms DSF said.
Moet Abebe, one of the podcast hosts, empathized with Fapson’s experience, revealing that she, too, had encountered similar judgment from potential suitors.
Abebe recounted how a suitor rejected her because he had been raised by a single parent and preferred not to have a partner with a similar upbringing.
“I can relate because someone has also told me that before. The reason was because he was also raised by a single parent. So, according to him, he didn’t want a child from someone with a similar upbringing. That was his excuse but I didn’t think it’s a reasonable excuse,” Abebe said.
