Nigerian fast-rising singer Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known as Ayra Starr, has had a truly remarkable year, highlighted by the release of the 2024 BET Awards nominations list.
The “Sabi Girl” crooner received three prestigious nods: Best New Artist, Best African Act, and Best HER for her hit single “Comma,” outshining her fellow Nigerian artists.
Burna Boy followed closely with two nominations, securing spots for Best RnB/Pop Act and Best Hip Hop Act.
Tems also made a significant impact, earning two nominations for Best Video Director and Best Gospel/Inspirational Song for her track “Me & U.”
The OBO Crooner, Davido and Lojay have snagged a nomination for the Viewers Choice Award thanks to their standout feature on Chris Brown’s hit “Sensational.”
YBNL music star Asake has earned a nod for Best International Act, while Seyi Vibez is in the running for Viewers Choice Best International New Act.
American rapper Drake leads the global nominations with seven nods, closely trailed by Nicki Minaj with six. J. Cole, Sexyy Red, SZA, and Victoria Monét each have five nominations, and 21 Savage, Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Tyla, and Usher each boast four.
Both Drake and Burna Boy have been nominated in two major categories: Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Best Male Hip-Hop Artist.
The 2024 BET Awards, dubbed “Culture’s Biggest Night,” will broadcast live from Los Angeles on BET on Sunday, June 30, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with this year’s theme being “Stand on Culture.”
