Don’t let people’s opinions on social media control you – Banky W advises

Banky W shares insights on the importance of not letting social media opinions affect one's self worth

Banky W offers advice on not allowing social media’s influence to dictate your actions.

in a recent interview on the “Who’s In My House show“, hosted by Hawa Magaji, the Nigerian singer and politician shared insights on the importance of not seeking validation from online comments, emphasizing the need to prioritize self-assurance.

During his appearance on the show, Banky W discussed how he and his wife, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, maintain privacy in their personal lives.

He highlighted the significance of avoiding the urge to constantly check social media for validation, stressing the negative impact it can have on one’s well-being.

The singer explained that while it’s natural to care about others’ opinions, it’s essential not to let those opinions control you.

He acknowledged the difficulty in resisting the temptation to seek approval through likes and comments but emphasized the importance of finding humor in online interactions rather than validation.

Banky W reminded viewers that it’s healthy to care about what others think but dangerous to let those opinions dictate your actions.

He cautioned against the current trend of seeking validation through social media, noting that many people now prioritize trending or going viral over authentic self-expression.

He said:

Don’t get your validation from the comments section which is very hard to do in today’s times.”

“This is because when you post something you immediately want to go and see how many likes and comments. The lesson is to not get the validation from the comment section. You can get the humour from there.”

“It is unrealistic to not care because you will care about people say. The reason why you take a shower and brush your teeth and get dressed to look pretty is because you care what people think”.

“It’s good to care but it’s bad when you let that control you. I think that we’ve gotten to a dangerous point in the world where we’ve gone past the point of caring about people’s opinions to being controlled by them. Now people do things just to trend and say things just to go viral or make things up. That’s something that Susu and I have to continually learn and remind ourselves and that’s how we try to carry ourselves and navigate the world that we’re in now”.
