Nigerian street-hop singer Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as “Portable” has dismissed the influence of his senior colleague Davido, asserting his determination to succeed without his help.
The rift between the two artists escalated after Portable publicly criticized Davido for allegedly giving him ‘bad advice’ regarding a music deal, prompting Davido to unfollow him on Instagram.
During an Instagram Live session, Portable said, “You are signed to Sony Music, but you’re giving me bad advice in America to get signed to Empire and collect advance. The same Grammy you’re chasing is what I’m also chasing.”
Unbothered by Davido unfollowing him on social media, Portable emphasized his self-reliance, citing examples of other mentors like Olamide and Skepta who had offered tangible assistance without strings attached.
“Olamide helped me directly, Skepta gave me a verse, money, shoes, clothes and still linked me up with big fashion brands. That’s the kind of helper I want from God not someone who will be following mouth,” Portable added.
In a new direct message to Davido, Portable said;
“Whether you choose to assist me or not, I’ll embark on my tour; whether you follow me or not, I’ll secure the Grammy.”
In related news, Nigerian singer Portable has sparked controversy after publicly calling out a certain Sony Music artist for giving him what he described as “bad advice” during his recent trip to the United States, where he met with superstar Davido.
The incident unfolded when Portable voiced his dissatisfaction in a video that circulated online.
In the video, he expressed frustration over being advised to join Empire music group rather than Sony Music, which he believes would offer greater global recognition.
