Nothing selfish about not wanting to have children – Ibrahim Suleiman

Ibrahim Suleiman challenges the stigma around childfree living

Nigerian actor Ibrahim Suleiman has spoken out against the misconception that choosing not to have children or get married is a selfish decision.

This was in response to a comment from an X user Ben Awoks, who claimed that only selfish individuals opt out of parenthood and marriage.

Ben Awoks had written, “How can you be proud of not having children or getting married?
Nothing rings. “I’m a selfish person” more than this“.

Suleiman countered, “Oh, for crying out loud. There is nothing selfish about not wanting to have children. If anything, there is an argument for having children being a selfish decision,”

He pointed out that having children can be a selfish desire, while choosing not to have them requires self-awareness and consideration for others.

However, he acknowledged that not everyone is equipped to be a good parent, and that’s okay.

He emphasized that bullying people into having children is wrong, as it’s essential to respect individual choices and capabilities.

Suleiman shared his personal experience, stating, I just taya. I’ve always wanted to have children. So of course I was eager to procreate as soon as I found my person. But I know people who know that they will not be able to be the best version of themselves as parents. Bullying people like that into procreation is wrong abeg.”

In another story, Ibrahim Suleiman had asserted that those who constantly retweet other people’s thoughts lack spine .

Suleiman shared this perspective with his followers on Twitter, cautioning them to be mindful of those who display this behavior online.

“Beware of people whose TLs are full of them constantly retweeting the thoughts and opinions of others and very few actual tweets of their own. They tend to lack spine.”
