The funeral of the iconic Nollywood actor, John Okafor, affectionately known as Mr. Ibu, turned into a remarkable gathering of family, friends, and celebrities in Nkanu West local government area, Enugu state, on Friday, June 28.

Mr. Ibu passed away on March 2, 2024, after a prolonged battle with a debilitating ailment that had cast a shadow over his family for years.

Heart-wrenching videos of the funeral have flooded social media, capturing every poignant moment. One particularly moving clip shows solemn undertakers carrying Mr. Ibu’s coffin, their steps synchronized to the somber strains of live music.

The atmosphere was thick with grief and reverence as his body arrived, and loved ones assembled to say their final goodbyes.

The event saw an outpouring of support from notable figures, adding an unexpected layer of grandeur to the somber occasion.

Among the distinguished attendees, Peter Obi, the beloved Anambra politician, made a grand entrance. His arrival was met with fervent cheers from his supporters, momentarily lifting the heavy mood with their spirited chant.

Adding to the star-studded roster, veteran actor Victor Osuagwu was spotted making his way into the venue. He joined a constellation of Mr. Ibu’s colleagues, including Charles Inojie, Charles Aurum, and others, all there seated to honor their late friend and peer.

This is coming after a night of tribute was held in his honour on Wednesday, in Enugu State, with fellow actors Charles Anwurum and Victor Osuagwu, among those who paid their last respects.

Earlier this month, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that the Actors Guild of Nigeria held a candlelight procession to pay tribute to Mr. Ibu and other deceased actors at Unity Fountain in Abuja.
