Nigerian singer Tems wins big at 2024 BET Awards

The 2024 BET Awards, hosted in Los Angeles and broadcast live on Sunday evening, dazzled audiences with its celebration of black entertainers across music, film, sports, and philanthropy.

Among the standout moments of the evening were the victories and nominations of several Nigerian artists.

One of the notable winners was Nigerian artist Tems, who clinched the ‘Best Gospel/Inspirational Song’ award for her 2024 release ‘Me & U’.

Tems emerged victorious in a competitive field that included esteemed nominees Halle Bailey and Kirk Franklin, celebrated for their works ‘Angel’ and ‘All Things’ respectively.

The BET Awards, known for honoring excellence among black entertainers in music, film, sports, and philanthropy, also spotlighted other Nigerian artists.

Ayra Starr led the nominations with three nods, including ‘Best New Artiste’ and ‘Best African Act’, while Burna Boy secured recognition in two categories, including ‘Best Male Hip Hop Artiste’ and ‘Best Male R&B/POP Artiste.

Davido and Lojay were nominated for their contributions to Chris Brown’s hit track ‘Sensational’, competing in the ‘Viewers Choice Award’ category.

Asake and Seyi Vibez were recognized in the ‘Best International Act’ and ‘Best New International Act’ categories respectively. In a special moment, Usher was honored with the prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement Award.’
