How late MKO Abiola framed my dad Fela for robbery, wanted him killed – Seun Kuti opens up in live video

When political power crashes into a music movement, sparks fly. The political bigwig, draped in power, faces the singer, whose voice carries the hopes and dreams of millions. It’s an all-out brawl, where every lyric and political connection is a weapon. Seun Kuti’s fiery recount of the legendary clash between Fela and MKO Abiola captures this perfectly. Fela unleashed musical fire, while Abiola played every political card. Their clash was a white-knuckle showdown of raw defiance and sly maneuvers

Seun Kuti, one of the torchbearers of the Afrobeat legacy and son of the iconic Fela Kuti, has set the record straight in a no-holds-barred live video.

He dropped a bombshell, accusing the late MKO Abiola and his wife, Simbiat, of orchestrating a nefarious plot to frame his father for armed robbery during the ruthless military regime of Muhammadu Buhari.

In his explosive revelation, Seun Kuti claimed that the Abiolas concocted a story, alleging that Fela had brazenly stolen their Ferrari at gunpoint.

According to him, this accusation came at a time when Buhari’s Deputy Head of State, the hardline Tunde Idiagbon, was enforcing draconian laws that made armed robbery a capital offense, a death penalty.

However, Seun divulged that Fela narrowly escaped the sinister setup due to a stroke of luck.

The singer reteirated that while the Abiolas were fabricating their story and raising the armed robbery allegation at a police station, Fela was safely out of the country, performing in Cameroon.

He added that Fela and his brother, Femi, in retaliation, snuck to Abiola’s house at night, smeared 12 buckets of faeces all over his compound.

The next day, the police came to investigate the mess, but Fela denied it,

Seun Kuti’s words;

“Abiola and his wife, Simbiat, lied against Fela that he and his boys robbed her of her Ferrari at gunpoint under Idiagbon’s regime. This was Abiola and his wife’s plan to kill my dad because, under Idiagbon, armed robbery was punishable by death.

“Abiola and Simbiat wrote a statement at a police station that they saw Fela and his gang rob her at gunpoint. This led to Fela’s arrest which is punishable by death, but luckily for Fela, he was performing in Cameroon the very day Simbiat was lying about the theft. Fela escaped the case because he can’t be in two places at the same time; its either he’s on a stage in Cameroon or robbing in Lagos.

“Responding, Fela and my elder brother, Femi, took 12 buckets of faeces go and listen to his song – give me shit, I give you shit – then you will have a better understanding. They took it to Abiola’s house in the middle of the night and smeared his compound.

“The next day, the police visited my father’s house saying they came to investigate the shit-show in Abiola’s house the previous day. But Fela denied the act saying if given the opportunity, he would smear Abiola’s house with faeces.”
