Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham found herself at the epicentre of a social media firestorm following the arrest of a troll identified as Ayo on X.
The controversy began when Toyin was accused of orchestrating the arrest of some individuals, including the mother, sister, and friends of these X influencers, on charges of cyberbullying, defamation of character, and issuing death threats.
The Nigerian Twitter community reacted strongly to the news, with many users expressing their outrage and calling for a boycott of Toyin Abraham’s movies. The arrest of the influencers, who allegedly defamed Toyin and threatened her life as well as the life of her son, sparked a heated debate online. Numerous users have demanded the immediate release of those detained, arguing that the actress’s actions were heavy-handed and an abuse of her influence and power.
Later on, one of the detained guys, Ayo was freed.
Amidst the backlash, Isaac Fayose has emerged as a vocal defender of Toyin Abraham. In a widely circulated video, he articulated the troubles that Toyin has endured at the hands of the public.
Fayose detailed the various forms of harassment Toyin has faced over the past 18 months, emphasizing that her decision to involve the authorities was a response to the severe and sustained nature of the threats against her and her family.
He further called on the police to arrest Ayo arrest and charge him to court over alleged bullying.
