Stella Maris Okafor, the widow of late Nollywood actor John Okafor (Mr Ibu), has mourned her husband with a heartfelt tribute two weeks after his burial.
She described the last moments of her husband as challenging, filled with hospital visits and sleepless nights as her husband’s condition worsened. Despite their efforts and medical care, they lost him to death.
Stella expressed gratitude for the support they received from individuals, including Peter Obi, Enugu State government, Actors Guild of Nigeria, and others, which helped them manage medical expenses and cope with emotional strain.
She appreciated the outpouring of donations and encouragement from Nigerians, saying it provided them strength during difficult times.
In her words:
“Today makes it two weeks since we laid my beloved husband, Mr John Okafor, (Mr. Ibu) to rest. This period has been challenging to me and my family.
From the moment my husband’s illness began, it was a difficult journey filled with numerous hospital visits. As his condition worsened, we faced countless sleepless nights, hoping and praying for a miracle. The love and laughter he brought into our lives were replaced by an overwhelming sense of fear and uncertainty. Despite our best efforts and the dedication of his medical team, we lost him to the cold hands of death.
During these trying times, the support we received from generous and compassionate individuals provided us with the strength to continue. The outpouring of donations and encouragement from Nigerians was nothing short of remarkable, helping us manage medical expenses and cope with the emotional strain.
As we moved from the hospital to the burial preparations, the reality of our loss began to set in. The burial period was a rollercoaster of emotions for my family and I, but it was also a time when we witnessed the immense kindness and solidarity from friends, family, and well-wishers.
So, I would like to begin my thanks with the Nigerians who made donations during my husband’s illness, from the time his condition worsened until we lost him. Your generosity and compassion have been a lifeline for us.
I extend a special thanks to H.E Peter Obi for his presence during the burial. Thank you so much, sir.
Special thanks to Enugu State Government and the Governor, H.E Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Your commitment to our well-being has been a great relief during this period of mourning…..”
