Why I don’t allow my artistes to release songs same day as Wizkid, Asake – Don Jazzy

Don Jazzy speaks on releasing artistes songs on same day

Ace music executive and CEO of Mavin Records, Michael Collins Ajereh, professionally known as Don Jazzy has revealed that he doesn’t allow his artistes to release songs or projects on the same day as Wizkid or Asake.

In a podcast interview with Fisayo Fosudo, Jazzy said releasing music on the same day as the duo can be musically suicidal.

It’s not secret that Wizkid and Asake are among the most successful artistes in Nigeria in this streaming era. Don Jazzy said:

“We [Mavin] are moving from the traditional Friday release date to Wednesdays and Thursdays because there are no more Fridays [without another artistes dropping a song].

“If my artiste is to drop a song or project on a Friday and Wizkid or Asake is also releasing that day, I will move our release date because you don’t want to just die a natural death.”

Mavin Records has stars like Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Johnny Drille, and Lifesize Teddy on its radar.

A while back, Don Jazzy shared why he usually tells his signees to emulate singer, Portable’s controversial personality.

Don Jazzy said he uses the Zazuu star as an example whenever he is talking to his artistes about how to stay relevant in the music industry.

The music executive stated this while being interviewed by Joey Akan on Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast.

He also did a comparitive analysis of BNXN (formerly Buju) and Portable who both became big stars in 2021.

Don Jazzy noted that at the time Portable hit the limelight with his breakout song, Zazuu Zeh, courtesy of Olamide, BNXN already had 7 songs on the charts but the controversial singer’s followers grew to a million faster.

He further explained that the controversial or debatable things that Portable does puts him in the news and that aids his relevance even without releasing songs.
