Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, has announced the postponement of her music video for “Burning“, originally scheduled for release today.
In a statement released on X, Tems explained that the decision was made in consideration of the ongoing nationwide protest in Nigeria.
She also expressed her support for the protest, emphasizing the importance of listening to the people’s voices.
Tems stated that she is prioritizing the safety of those participating in the protest and hopes for a peaceful resolution.
Tems wrote:
“Out of respect for the on going protest at home [Nigerian flag emoji], I have decided to postpone the release of ‘Burning’ music video.
“Praying for the safety of those outside at this time. May the voice of the people be heard.”
Nigerian singer Spyro has also called for ‘entertainment break’ amid nationwide protest.
In an Instagram post, Spyro also urged religious leaders to use their platforms to address the situation.
He expressed his concerns about the country’s current state and encouraged fellow celebrities to speak out.
He emphasized the need for collective action and hoped that the government would take notice.
“I personally think it is quite insensitive to post anything entertainment now. The Country is bleeding and we are all affected whether we agree to that fact or not. I am very much affected and i particularly feel the pain of the average man.
“I don’t intend to keep mute so I’m calling on everyone with a platform to speak up. I am hoping that the government will see our tears this time and take actual steps for the betterment of the people #GODBLESSNIGERIA.
“I wish Men of God can speak up for the people now as it was in the days of old …This is not a time to PRAY, it’s a time to ACT, even the Bible says “FAITH without WORKS is dead” In the Bible days,men of God were strong tools that God used to challenge the government and liberate the people. MOSES, your people need you now.”
