Why we are against holding a one-year death anniversary event for Mohbad – Late Singer’s family

When the world looks to celebrate, they forget that grief still lingers, that wounds never truly heal, and that memories are not currency to be traded. Mohbad's family doesn't want a spectacle; they want peace. They want the world to know that every plan to commemorate his anniversary without their consent is an intrusion into their pain, a violation of their sanctuary. For them, this is not about fanfare or tributes; it is about the quiet mourning of a life stolen too soon

The family of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, famously known as Mohbad, has fiercely rejected any plans to commemorate the anniversary of the late artist.

In a searing statement penned by their legal bulldog, Monisola Odumosu, the family didn’t just urge—they demanded that every organization and individual plotting to commemorate Mohbad’s first anniversary abandon those thoughts immediately..

They are wary of the vultures circling around his legacy, aiming to capitalize on the tragedy that took him at just 27 years old.

The Alobas made it crystal clear that they’re still grappling with the agonizing loss of the singer and they’re not interested in reopening the festering wounds left by the suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The statement reads, “It has come to the attention of the Aloba family that some organisations have been planning to celebrate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). The Aloba family wishes to appeal to such interest groups to suspend such ideas.

“It is no longer news that some individuals and organisations have been planning to carry out events to commemorate the late singer’s death

We will appeal to such persons and organisations to seek proper approval from the family before going on with such plans. The Aloba family would not wish the goodwill of their illustrious son to be employed for commercial purposes.”
