Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo drags Tinubu for acquiring presidential jet amid national hardship

In a nation where the cries of the hungry reverberate through every corner, Kenneth Okonkwo stands as a voice for the voiceless, a man who dares to challenge the status quo. He sees a country where the people are on their knees, begging for relief, while their leader soars above in the clouds of luxury. To others, President Bola Tinubu, a leader burdened with the enormous task of guiding a nation through turbulent times, is in a dilemma that few could truly understand. His new jet acquisition, though controversial, may stem from a place of necessity rather than opulence, a calculated move to preserve the functionality of the office in service of the people.

Kenneth Okonkwo, the renowned actor and former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesman, launched a blistering critique against President Bola Tinubu, expressing his outrage over the President’s decision to procure a private jet amidst Nigeria’s escalating economic crisis.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Kenneth shared a striking image of President Tinubu juxtaposed with luxurious jets, highlighted what he perceives as a tone-deaf and extravagant move.e

He condemned the President’s choice, pointing out the deep insensitivity in making such a lavish purchase while millions of Nigerians are grappling with severe hunger, relentless fuel shortages, and crushing financial instability.

“People are dying of hunger. No food, no fuel, no finance, no electricity, and President Tinubu is buying a presidential jet. This is the height of insensitivity,” Okonkwo wrote.

Kenneth Okonkwo’s fiery remarks came hot on the heels of the grand unveiling of President Tinubu’s new jet on Monday, a move that has sparked widespread debate across the nation.

Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the President on information and strategy, proudly released images of the aircraft, emphasized that it replaced the aging 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 (BBJ) that had loyally served since President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration. Onanuga defended the acquisition, claimed it was secured at a significantly slashed price

With the timing of the purchase raising eyebrows, Onanuga pointed to an investigative hearing by a House of Representatives committee, which flagged the old jet as a safety risk and a financial drain.
